| A Good Dad Is Ego-less by Wade B. Mumm A good dad learns to put others first in the way he organizes his time. It may mean less sleep, not watching his favorite television show or not golfing with his buddies, but when it comes to family, time spent with the kids is time invested in tomorrow. Really, a good dad is ego-less. If we are very honest with ourselves, we must admit that much of our time is spent on ourselves in very ego-driven ways. I think women are probably less likely to be egocentric, but men do struggle in this area. I believe a good dad will learn to give his time away – to the ones for whom he is fighting. Excerpted from A Dad’s Many Hats: How a Young Dad Can Be a Good Dad, by Wade B. Mumm (Essence Publishing, 2003). Dr. Wade B. Mumm was raised in Thailand as the son of missionaries. He has worked several years in broadcasting and public relations in the United States and abroad. Mumm is an ordained minister and senior pastor, television producer, and author. He holds a Ph.D. in communication from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and specializes in organizational communication. He often travels internationally when producing and hosting the television show "Influence Living" (www.influenceliving.com), which uses interviews and reenactments to tell the stories of everyday people. He served as professor and department chair from 1995 to 2007 at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. Additionally, as a former U.S. Army officer, he has served in various leadership positions, reaching the rank of captain. His book A Dad’s Many Hats is available at www.amazon.com. Mumm serves as committee chair of the National Religious Broadcasters Church Media Committee. He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters and reside near Orlando, Florida.
