| Mother of All Boys Wisdom From a Close Friend by Shelby Rawson If you’re a mother of tiny tumbleweeds tanked with testosterone, you will appreciate the tidbits my close confidante Ariel Lawhon shares in her blog. Ariel has potty trained one of her three boys and has two more to tame – I mean train. Over the last eight years, the two of us have been engaged, married, built houses and birthed babies with one another’s support and encouragement. No one has laughed or cried more with me during these crazy baby and toddler days than Ariel. The following is just a piece of what she is learning on her path: The farther I get into this mothering journey, the more I realize how much I don’t know. Changing diapers and getting up in the middle of the night to feed a hungry newborn is one thing. Teaching a 3-year-old to obey, or a 4-year-old to be respectful is something else entirely. The truth is that every mother needs help, needs wisdom, and needs encouragement. This morning I celebrated a small victory on my son’s journey to potty training, and this evening I will celebrate a small success on my part as a mother. Now, may I wake up tomorrow and do it again! I hope you have mothers around to share in your trials and tantrums. It is doubtful that I will escape these toddler years without being on the phone with my “mother of all boys” more times than I can count. After all, sinking the toilet paper is right around the corner for my little man! If you’d like to be encouraged further by Ariel, you can read her blog at www.themoabclub.blogspot.com. Ariel is the co-author of Daddy, Do You Love Me? A Daughter’s Journey of Faith and Restoration, a speaker, a wife and a stay-at-home mother of three young boys. Shelby Rawson is a writer, co-author of Daddy, Do You Love Me? A Daughter’s Journey of Faith and Restoration, and the mother of two young children. What words of encouragement can you offer to moms with young children? Share Your Thoughts... Be the first to comment on this article! |
